Printing

Printing from a public computer and paying for your print jobs are somewhat different from what you might be used to. Rather than picking up your print jobs at a service desk, for example, our printing system allows you to pay for your print jobs right at the printer. Here's how it works:

Sending your print job from a public computer:

  1. Select File | Print... from the menu It is strongly recommended that, before printing, you first select File | Print Preview from the menu to see how your job will look and how many pages it will be, then make any adjustments to your document. Also, save your work to a floppy disk or portable USB drive before printing. When you are ready to print, select File | Print....
  2. Print dialog window A Print Dialog window will appear, which contains a number of tools to help you control your print job. (Note: Not all Print windows will look exactly like the one pictured on the right, but they should contain similar features.)

If you don't want all pages to print, use the Page Range area to select only the current page or a shorter range of pages. Select the radio button next to the option you want.

If you want to print multiple copies of your print job, rather than repeating the printing process, use the Copies area. Click the up or down arrow to increase or decrease the number of copies.

Click OK when you are ready to print.

  3. Print Confirmation window A Print Confirmation window will appear to show you the number of pages, price per page, and total cost of your print job.

Important: If the number of pages shown in your Print Confirmation window is higher than you expect, click Cancel and repeat Steps 1 and 2 to make the necessary adjustments to your document (decrease the print range, lower the number of copies, etc.). Once you click Print here, you will be unable to change the number of pages at the printer.

  4. Print Status After your job has been successfully sent to the printer, a status window will appear to give you the location of the printer and the time your print job will expire. Click OK to acknowledge this information.

Picking up and paying for your print job(s):

  1. Locate the printer and Print Release Station.
  2. Move the Print Release Station's mouse or press a key on the keyboard to disable the screen saver.
  3. Enter your library card number Enter your 14-digit library card number in the field provided, then click OK. Do not include spaces in the card number. If there is a barcode scanner next to the monitor, you may scan your library card's barcode (first make sure the cursor appears in the field provided).
  4. A list of your print jobs A window will appear that lists your print job(s). If you do not see any print jobs listed, click Done and repeat Step 3, making sure you enter your library card number correctly. The card number you used to reserve your computer session must be the same one you enter at the Print Release Station.
  5. Payment request Once you see your print job listed, click on it once to highlight it, then click the Print button. (If you have multiple jobs to print at the same time, click the Select Multiple Jobs button, click once on each of your jobs, then click Print.) A window will appear with instructions to insert money into the printer's coin box (see image on right). Exact change is preferred but not required; if you enter more money than your print job requires, the coin box will issue the appropriate amount of change.

Important: Do not use pennies in any printer coin box. Make sure you want all of the pages that will print, as the library does NOT issue refunds for unwanted pages.

  6. Once you have put your money into the coin box, click OK. After a few seconds, your pages will begin to print. NOTE: Print jobs with many pages (especially PDF files) may take several minutes to print. We appreciate your patience.
  7. Click 'Done' After your job prints successfully, please click Done on the Print Release Station.
